THERAPIST

Sharon Burgamy, LPC, EMDR-Certified

I help men who have experienced childhood trauma and attachment wounds and guide them through increasing their awareness and gaining self-acceptance.

Hi, I know it can be difficult to reach out for support, but an amazing job finding yourself here! Therapy is a powerful tool to help you add awareness to your life and better connect you to yourself. I like to think of myself as someone who can help you connect the dots of your life because the past is the present. Examining the past and how it has shaped you is incredibly useful in making changes and moving forward. My strengths are my empathy and compassion and creating a container for you to do this work. My own experience with mental health and (mostly) positive experiences in therapy have led me to this work.

I thoroughly enjoy working with male clients because so often they have spent a lifetime shoving their feelings down and it’s a powerful process to witness someone feeling feelings for possibly the first time. To go from learning that most feelings are a “weakness” to understanding that feelings are actually where we find our strength and purpose is truly life-changing. It is an honor to hold space for male clients to embrace vulnerability and then bring that out of the therapy room for the rest of their lives.

My Therapy Style

I graduated from the University of New Orleans in 2012 with a Master’s in Counselor Education, Clinical Mental Health. Since graduating, I have worked in inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment centers and psychiatric hospitals before landing in group practice. My clients have experienced and thrived while working through struggles with addiction, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and life transitions.

Over the last decade, I have learned the importance of addressing trauma and attachment wounds with modalities beyond talk therapy. I utilize EMDR and believe it is one of the most healing therapeutic tools there is. I also utilize Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) and believe combining KAP and EMDR can potentially be life-changing! I bring in parts work to help you explore your different parts of self and get to know who you are at your core, your Self. I enjoy working with clients who have done talk therapy previously and have seen minimal changes. Techniques such as EMDR, KAP, and parts work to access different parts of your brain, body, and nervous system to allow for long-lasting healing.

I offer both individual KAP and Group-KAP.

What I Specialize In

People always ask, “Isn’t it so hard hearing people’s negativity and trauma all day long?” and the answer for me is no! My clients go through incredible changes in their process and I am honored to be able to witness growth, hope, and strength from each one of them. Deeply connecting with others is one of my core values and I am lucky enough to have found a job that allows me to do so. I look forward to seeing if we are a good fit!
